SUMMARY
Supports or assists the RNs and Physicians in the Emergency Department. The technical skills of the ER Tech are necessary to support patients of all age groups in an atmosphere of emergency treatment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
The following are performed under the direction of a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department:
- Assists with the transport of patients in and out of cars, as well as to other departments within the hospital.
- Draw peripheral labs on all patients.
- Collects specimens as instructed and labels appropriately.
- Demonstrates competency in blood glucose monitoring via finger sticks.
- Assists the Registered Nurse in the delivery of patient care as directed.
- Maintains par levels of equipment and supplies for the Department. Communicates with 7-3 Unit Assistant regarding supplies needed.
- Demonstrates Core Value behaviors.
- Documents all patient interaction and care on the Emergency Department record.
- Attends required Department/Hospital meetings as directed. (CPR, Fire & Safety, Disaster Plan, Infection Control ).
- Basic orientation will include skills of pulse oximetry, EKG, phlebotomy, and monitor placement.
- Provide post-mortem care.
- Follow good hand-washing and aseptic techniques.
- Follow infection control precautions.
- Initiate emergency actions when situations dictate.
- Take vital signs.
- Record vital signs, intake and output and accuchecks.
- Obtain old records from Health information Services / EKG department.
- Perform similar or related duties as required.
- Provide messenger and delivery services when necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent.
- EMT training by the Pennsylvania Department of Health-Division of Emergency Services or Medical Assistant with relevant experience (phlebotomy training, office triaging of patients, multitasking in a fast paced environment) required.
- BLS certification required.
- Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and an FBI criminal history check required.
