Join Howard University and thrive with us! JOB PURPOSE:The Assistant Director (AD) is responsible for assisting the Director with facets of academic registration for all law students, including daily assistance to students with questions.
The AD is responsible for the preparation of grade sheets and the recording of all official grades from courses.
The AD assists with certification of completion of academic requirements for graduation. The AD also assists in completing documentation for graduates who are applying to the state bars.
The AD assists students by providing class ranks at the end of each spring.
The AD prepares the CALI award lists at the end of each semester.
In conjunction with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the School of Law IT team, the copy center manager, the Office of Student Affairs team, and any other relevant team members, the AD plans and implements the midterm and final exam administration for the School of Law. This includes preparation and distribution of exams in person and/or electronically to and from students and faculty. The AD plans, prepares, and implements all other aspects of exam administration, including and not limited to, exam room assignments, exam room security, exam administration for the Office of Student Affairs ADA-accommodated and emergency make-up exams.
Provides Director and Assistant Director of Bar Preparation and Academic Support with documentation needed for IL and 2L academic support program participants.
Provides administrative assistance to the Records office by answering phone calls and emails from students, alumni, faculty, state bar officials and others.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:Reports to the Director of Records
NATURE AND SCOPE:Internal contacts include administrators, students, faculty, and staff of the department and University. External contacts include alumni, vendors, visitors and the general public.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:- Works with the Director of Records to complete all tasks as noted above and others to be assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES: - Skilled in the operation of computers, related software applications (word-processing, spreadsheet, database, graphic presentations, information management, etc.), especially Microsoft Office Suite, Workday and standard office equipment.
- Ability to exercise discretion and ensure a high-level of confidentiality. Communicate effectively orally and in writing with a diverse population.
- Skilled in the use of proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, business correspondence, composition and format.
- Knowledge of office practices and secretarial science.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students and the general public.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:- Two years of college or business school and one (1) year responsible secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of three (3) years combined, relevant education and experience
Compliance Salary Range DisclosureCompensation Range - $65,000 - $75,000
