The Prep Cook is responsible for maintaining strict sanitation practices when handling food and equipment, and for properly operating, cleaning, and caring for kitchen tools, dishes, and utensils. This position may also assist with serving meals to residents as needed, supporting a smooth and welcoming dining experience.General Responsibilities* Preparation of all food in sufficient quantities for residents and employees, with preparation timed to coincide with meal hours.* Keeping the entire cooking area and refrigerators clean, including mixers, blenders, slicers, and other equipment.* Always keep food at safe temperatures.* Keep alert to food leftovers.Qualifications* Required sufficient education to be able to read, write, do basic math calculations, and comprehend and carry out directions.* Must know proper sanitation procedures and safety procedures.* Must know how to follow standardized recipes and recognize a quality product.* Must be experienced with cooking requirements for different types and/or cuts of meat and know the proper names of foods when purchasing.* Experience in food services is preferred.* Must be able to relate to residents and other team members in a courteous and diplomatic manner under all circumstances.Physical and Work Environment* Kitchen/dining environment within a senior living/healthcare facility* Must possess adequate sight and hearing, with or without assistive devices, to meet job requirements.* Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, talk, and hear.* Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste, or smell.* Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.* Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions.
